Undergraduates in Oyo State have been adviced to make good use of every opportunity that presents itself for their personal development during this period of academic disturbance.

The Honourable Commissioner for Information Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, made this admonition at a public presentation and press conference for empowerment and capacity building for students, organized by Ibadan Entrepreneurs Network, the Vantage Center and Invest Africa Limited.

Olatubosun noted that the rate at which students misbehave due to the strike action is alarming, while also blaming the ASUU strike on bad leadership and insensitivity on the part of the government.

He encouraged the students to leverage on the advancement in technology and social media to distinguish themselves among others, urging them to see the strike action as an opportunity instead of a problem.

The Convener of the program, Mrs. Abiodun Oyenike Adeleke in her remarks noted that the program is intended to help students discover themselves and gain skills that would help them succeed in life which they cannot get within the four walls of any academic institution, she hinted that over 100 students have registered for the training.

Listing the different skills made available for would-be participants to acquire, such as computer and web designing, broadcasting and communication, comportment and finishing, men and women’s cloth making, catering and event planning, bag and shoe making, public speaking and more, Oyenike expressed gratitude to their partners who offered to teach the students free of charge.

Speaking at the event, the founder of Invest Africa Ltd, Prince Kunle Aderemi while appreciating the Honourable Commissioner for gracing the event noted that the fact that the commissioner keyed into the idea indicates that Oyo State is headed in the right direction and there is great hope for the youths in the State.

One of the participants of the training and empowerment program, Eriayo Kuforiji, who is studying Communication and Language Arts at the University of Ibadan on her own part appreciated the convener of the program and partners who offered to train and empower them, while urging other youths to avail themselves for the opportunity given to them on a platter of gold.
