Oyo Lawmaker, Abiodun Babalola Calls For Urgent Support for Oranyan Market Fire Victims

Hon. Abiodun Babalola, representing Ibadan North-East 1 Constituency, has called for immediate assistance for traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Oranyan Market in Ibadan, Oyo State.
During a plenary session presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Hon. Babalola highlighted the recurring issue of market fires in Oyo State and emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent such incidents.
The devastating fire destroyed over 40 shops, causing multimillion-naira losses and leaving traders in financial hardship.
“The inferno razed over forty shops, resulting in the destruction of multimillion – naira worth of property and valuable herbs.”
” while no life was lost in the incident, the affected traders, whose shops and livelihoods were wiped out overnight, now face enormous financial hardship, and unsure of how to rebuild their businesses.”
The Oyo State House of Assembly urged the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assess the damage and provide necessary support to affected traders.
The House has adjourned plenary till Tuesday 24th September, 2024
