Oke-Ogun Teachers Converge in Saki, Endorse Makinde For 2nd Term

Thousands of teachers in Oke-Ogun on Thursday, converged in Saki to appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde to contest for second term, as the Executive Governor of Oyo State in 2023.

The teachers from Atisbo, Saki-West and Saki-East Local Governments unanimously called for Seyi Makinde’s continuity, saying they have enjoyed good times under his administration.

According to them, Makinde, has been a large-hearted, God-fearing leader, who has raised the bar in their social status among their peers across the country.

About six Unions, under the Nigeria Union of Teachers, were present at the event, where the GSM Teachers Vanguard, Saki Zone was inaugurated.

In his words at the event, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Wasiu Olatubosun enjoined Nigeria Union of Teachers to mobilize members and eligible students to register and get their voter’s cards in order to vote in the coming election.

Olatunbosun charged them to reciprocate the good gestures of Governor Seyi Makinde, who has eased their burdens through prompt payment of salaries and other emoluments in 2023.
Dr. Olatunbosun called their attention to the efforts of the present administration in the State towards delivering free healthcare to residents in the State, provision of security, expansion of economy through infrastructure and agribusiness.

Also speaking, the chairman, NUT, Oke-Ogun, Oyo, Ogbomosho Divisional Executive Council, Com. Salami Mukaila Adedoyin expressed their readiness to vote for Makinde in 2023, adding that he is a strong, deep-rooted and passionate leader.

Adedoyin described Makinde as a selfless politician whose creditable performance has delivered Oyo State from the misrule of the opposition party.

“As the umbrella body of Teachers in Oyo State, we are here to show our support for our dear Governor, Seyi Makinde. He is a politician with an enviable track record and we believe in his leadership style.

He mentioned dividends enjoyed by teachers in the state as follows: Car loan, free education for pupils, N3 million housing loan for teachers, conversion of Non-Academic Staff members to Teaching service among others.

Also speaking, Head, Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Saki Zone, Com. Funso Folaranmi described Seyi Makinde as a worker-friendly Governor who has judiciously committed the State’s resources into the development of human resources.

“Makinde has been steering the affairs of the State well. Today, Oyo State has moved from the 26th position to 11th position in the country. This is so because we have enjoyed prompt payment of salaries, teachers have enjoyed promotion, leave bonus, while the waiting period of Primary school teachers have been reviewed from six years to three years. Oyo State has witnessed tremendous progress under Makinde. Therefore, we urge all of you here to support him,” he said.

A Full-Time Board Member at TESCOM, Mr. Mudashiru Awujola advised teachers and other stakeholders in the education system to align with the 2nd term gospel, as initiated by Hon. Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun.

He urged teachers to use the period between March and May to register for voting and get their voters cards before the 2023 general elections.
Highlights of the event was the inauguration of GSM Teachers’ Vanguard, Cultural display, and rendition of poems.
