Oyo Lawmaker, Olorunpoto moves motion on Construction of Speed Breakers at Oyo – Iseyin Road

The Oyo State House of Assembly has appealed to the State Government to construct Speed Breaksers at some Flash Points on the newly Constructed Oyo – Iseyin and some identified flash points in order to prevent the occurrence of Road accidents occasioned by reckless driving.

This was part of resolves on a motion sponsored by the lawmaker representing Oyo East / West State Contituency, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, and seconded by Hon. Gbenga Oyekola of Atiba State Contituency.

Presenting the motion during the plenary today, Hon. Olorunpoto explained that many drivers do not drive with caution to prevent the occurrence of accidents on the road, and this call for preventive measures to be in place in order to avert all forms of accidents.

“Since the commissioning of the road, it has been useful and beneficial to people and commuters plying the road but observed reckless driving on the part of some drivers ,especially commercial motorcyclist popularly known as “Okada Riders” as well as some private and commercial car or bus drivers”

Hon. Olorunpoto stated further that ” even though there have been no reported cases of accidents on the newly Constructed Oyo – Iseyin road through observed reckless driving but preventive measures ought to be in place on the road through installation and construction of Zebra crossing signs and speed breakers at some Flashpoints on the road such as Irepo, Ojongbodu,Fashola and Sooku.

The Plenary was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin who urged the Executive Arm of Government through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to consider the various measures that can prevent the occurrence of accidents on our roads and in extension see to the construction of speed breakers on Ogbomosho zone as requested by Hon. Johnson Ogundele representing Orire State Contituency especially on the Ogbomosho – Fapote – Iseyin road where flashpoints such as Gege, Onitirin, Atoruko and Fapote had been identified

The House has adjourned the plenary till Tuesday, 30th January, 2024.
