Oyo Medics Hail Makinde’s Measures on Health Reforms

The Oyo State government’s decision to allot huge funds for the upgrade, renovation and construction of new public healthcare centres has been described as praise-worthy by Medical workers in the State. 

The Corordinating Medical Officer of Health in Oyo East Local Government, Dr. Oluwafemi Ajagbe yesterday, said the newly upgraded Oba Adeyemi PHC, Durbar, Oyo is now a well-graded Category 3 health facility that will go a long way in strengthening healthcare services in the LGA, as well as prepare the entire Oyo State for future recommendations .

Also, the Acting Primary Healthcare Coordinator, Atiba Local Government, Oke Modupe Oluwatoyin said the upgraded and newly built structures in the LGA are a very big plus to the people in the region.

She said this portends easy access to healthcare for the people in the community as well.

“This makes healthcare services more accessible to our people at the grassroot level.

She further said, before the construction of the new PHC buildings in Atiba, it was not easy for Healthcare workers and residents, saying the distance and workload on facilities were so much.

“As per services, we are now experiencing increased patronage from our clients, and we hope it will increase more as time goes on”, she said.

Likewise, the Primary Healthcare Coordinator, Oyo West Local Government, Mrs. Lagbenro Arinlade Ayoade said the funds invested by the administration for adequate healthcare infrastructure has helped improved their job conditions.

She said since the beginning of the present administration, health facilities have been enjoying changes.

In his words, the Baale of Agboye, Olakojo Kareem Afolabi, added that the Agboye community initially was using the town hall for medical treatments.

He further disclosed that the community now enjoys tremendous achievements in child delivery and treatment of the sick since the Agboye health centre was built by the State Government.

He further eulogised Governor Makinde for fulfilling his promises.

Alh. Hussein Adebayo, a community leader in Oyo thanked the healthworkers who have been helpful in their assigned duties.

“Healthcare in the community has been strengthened at every level along with improved performance by our healthcare workers”, he said.

“Our community welcomes these strategic reforms and looks forward to working with our healthcare workers on expanding healthcare footprint. In view of the tremendous upgrades experienced by the industry, we look forward to continuously engaging with the state government for support to sustain and maintain the tempo”.

He said the new upgrades have awakened community members to the need for receiving quality healthcare, as at when due.

At Olorunsogo Model PHC, Kishi, a Community leader, Mr. Kehinde Ladoja commended Governor Makinde’s government in improving the health of residents, adding that the utilization level has improved.

Likewise at Atipa PHC, a patient, Mrs. Abibat Aimu admired the attractiveness of the PHC, saying residents now patronise the health centre more than before.

Speaking at Primary Healthcare centre, Irepo LGA, Kishi, Mrs. Muslimat Salaudeen, a Community member said the PHC has improved the overall quality of healthcare in the LGA.

Also speaking at the Owode Maternity Centre, Ward 1, Igbeti, some residents, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, Abdulrahman Aminat and Adamo Ibrahim all testified to the upgrade of the facility, and increased patronage at the centre compared to what it was before.

Also, at a newly constructed PHC at Sada Isale Ora, Ogbomosho North, Adetoye Funmi and Chief Ganiyu Ajadi thanked Governor Makinde for this kind gesture and praised his healthcare policies, which mandates that a Category 3 PHC must exist in at least each ward of the state with all necessary amenities to enable quality healthcare.

“We are happy that the State Government has put measures in place to improve healthcare infrastructure, including befitting facilities”, they chorused.

The other Primary Healthcare centres visited in Oyo were the newly built, Balogun-Bashorun Maternity centre, Atiba LGA; Newly built Ode-Aremo PHC, Atiba; Akeetan Baale PHC, Oyo West, which was upgraded.

Others include the Tewure Health Centre, Oriire LGA; upgraded Ladindin PHC and Isokun PHC, Oyo-West LGA; Newly built Jafu PHC, Fiditi and the Afijio PHC, Fiditi both in Afijio LGA.

It is noteworthy that all these PHCs have gone through the process of infrastructure expansion with several engineering works, such as changing of all doors and windows to standard contemporary ones, more rooms and ensuring that roof coverings were also changed to storm-resisting ones wherever they are not.

Several other facilities were newly built to ensure that places where PHCs never existed or land spaces were made available were not left out in benefitting.

All these facilities have also been fenced to enhance perimeter security.
